SANTA ANA PUEBLO, New Mexico — Representatives from the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development, National Congress of American Indians, Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will be among the keynotes during the 2016 Annual Convention and Tradeshow hosted by AMERIND Risk and the National American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC).

Gary “Litefoot” Davis, NCAIED President and CEO; Brian Cladoosby, NCAI President; Chris Dischene, Director of the DOE Office of Indian Energy; and Lourdes Castro Ramirez, HUD Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary will join the insurance company and tribal housing organization in the collaborative event May 8-11 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

“It is a privilege to have NCIAED, NCAI, DOE and HUD represented during our convention as each organization supports tribal communities, our missions, values and our businesses,” AMERIND CEO Derek Valdo said. “All the organizations have been great partners to Indian Country.”

During the convention, attendees will have an opportunity to network with tribal leaders, housing administrators and other business professionals. Workshops include workplace safety, claims, housing management, human resources and housing security. NAIHC will provide updates on legislative and policy issues, as well as training on running an effective housing program. AMERIND and NAIHC have held a collaborative convention the past few years to aid the organizations in offering extensive training opportunities. AMERIND Risk grew out of a need to provide affordable, accessible claims coverage to tribal housing authorities when commercial insurance became too costly in 1986.

“The National American Indian Housing Council is extremely excited to conduct another combined annual convention with AMERIND,” NAIHC Board Chairwoman Sami Jo Difuntorum said. “Our members can look forward to more training options for Indian Housing professionals than at any previous event. We anticipate record attendance and look forward to seeing everyone in Hawaii.”

Sponsorships and exhibit opportunities are still available. During the annual meeting, AMERIND Risk will celebrate its 30th anniversary.
